Michael, thanks, that's helpful: I'll give that scheme a whirl when I do
eventually move to Ventura. I tend to wait for .1 (not
I've been waiting the usual see-what-it-throws-up gap before updating to
Ventura. I can't quite work out from the foregoing posts what I would
have to do to have LMS run on Ventura. Can anyone give a (sorry!) simple
answer for a non-techy Mac user?
Fixed it.
Updated to 8.2.0 - 1620630276 @ Mon May 10, and all selections now
firing on one press of the remote's Play button. My finger is grateful.
If Michael's reading, was this fixed purposefully? If not, perhaps it
was "just one of those things"?
I've done a bit more digging, and on the face of it this does seem
related to the random-play options of 8.2.
I have library views globally set to All Library (default), and Random
Mix/Use Library View set to my custom "SpotifyRandom" saved search.
Here's some examples:
If I want to play one
I'm running a recent 8.2 nightly (May 4th) to get the new random-play
options.
I'm pretty sure it's since the update that when I control either of my
two SB3s with its supplied remote control, I have to press the Play
button once, wait a few seconds, then press Play again, in order for

Er... does that mean slower or faster to create the initial shuffled
list, slower or faster to add new items to that list, or what?

Michael, this is wonderful. Not so random as to be too randomwith all
that we now know about the perceived non-randomness of true randombut
random enough to feel random. I think that's right. Yes, I've read that
sentence again and it makes some sort of sense. Anyway, I am happily
randomised!

Thanks, Michael, I wouldn't have found that without your guidance.
Given that it seems unlikely to change anything, and that I'm nervous
around all this (to me) baffling code, I think I'll leave well alone.
So, er maybe I will give Dynamic Playlist etc another go!
And your point in post
Slartibartfast and Michael, I appreciate the further info on the
commits. Excuse my dimness, however, but I still don't understand what
these are and where the files they relate to are (I'm using MacOS). That
link seems to be referring to Slim-related files, which surely are
ancient? And as you
Robbh, it's Random Mix that's the culprit for me, as I'm avoiding the
potentially harmful 'oldness' of Dynamic Playlist, as discussed here.
But yes, with so-called Random Mix, same artists appearing all the time,
plenty of others neverpretty much as DCtoDaylight reports.

My last post was over-optimistic.
The Library Views scheme is certainly a successful way to cue up an
alternative set of tracks. But, despite what I thought at first, the
degree of randomness of those tracks delivered by Random Mix remains
poor. I suppose it was naive to expect it could be any
Oh well, a few more faltering steps. Having set up the saved search as a
Library View, it wasn't clear what to do with it.
I added Library Views to the menus on my SB3, and... er, then what? Made
that the current view, fiddled around a bit more, and discovered that
this was now what would play

Thanks for the comments RobbH and benh. Think I'll err on the side of
caution and leave them uninstalled for now.
Is there a way that one of the great minds here on the forum could
reconfigure the existing Random Mix feature to incorporate multiple
choices? Or make new versions of the SQL and

d6jg, I knowI meant it would be good to use that setting as a preset
and be able to toggle between different ones, which benh likes the sound
of, too. Is there a possibility of this?

Running LMS 8.1.1 on MacOS 11.2.3.
Im toying with a few variations to get combinations of my server
library and/or Spotify library playing random (or shuffled, if you
prefer that term).
At present Im using Random Mix. Ive set its genre checkboxes on the
web UI so that it accesses what I want
OK, I see.
Yes, it created that file.
No, it doesn't autostart.
Just, as usual now, restart brings up the pref pane to the desktop,
showing server in stopped mode, which I then can manually start there if
I like.
So on my machine, still sort-of broke.
Michael, I tried it again as one line. Doesn't seem to do anything. What
exactly is it supposed to do?

Well, Michael, that's all very interesting.
I've been restarting a lot more than usual lately, with a new machine to
sort out, so I may not have noticed it so much usually as I leave the
machines on.
Take your point about potential upcoming Apple changes, so let's see.
Anyway, tried your
Tried disabling autostart at LMS pref panel.
Meaning I changed dropdown from "Automatically start server when system
boots" to "Never atart server automatically".
Then a panel popped up: "legacyLoader wants to make changes" and asking
for my admin password. Never seen that before.
Anyway,

It's always worked from the pref panel. I'll try disable/re-enable
autostart tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Michael, I presume you mean run it from Terminal with LMS not running. I

Thanks for the help, Michael, always appreciated. I'm afraid I gave up.
My main need for access to a playlist is to get to the BBC radio shows I
download to Muisc (aka iTunes) via Get iPlayer Automator. On reflection,
I can get to the relevant playlist relatively easily through my Apple TV

I have Automatically start server when system boots checked on the

But when I do indeed have cause to restart the mini, LMS does not
automatically start.
Not a great pain to start it

I copied over my existing iTunes library from Mojave OS to the Music app
on a new Mac mini running Catalina OS (10.15.5).
I installed LMS (7.9.3), too, and thats running well.
However, I cant see in LMS my older playlists that are in Catalinas
new Music app.
The only one showing is a new
Evan, it's a fair point you make.
That's another reason I'm not speeding to the update... there's nothing
in Catalina that makes me think wow, I must have that!
The reason I've gone along with updates in the past was because, even if
they didn't have features that were particularly
Im coming to the conclusion that Im not going to update to Catalina
from Mojave yet.
Thats not so much down to LMS, which I assume from the lack of response
to my question in recent posts here is working and running OK on
Catalina.
Its more like Michaels decision to stay with Mojave so
OK, good to know Tony T. Any other observations, anyone?

I was thinking of waiting till 10.15.2 and some down time (in other
words now) before taking the leap to Catalina.
Is anyone using 10.15.2 and still seeing probs getting LMS going on it
and/or running LMS on it?
Gentlemen, ta very much, those tips worked to get me back and running
with LMS.
As I and may others have said before, what on earth would we do without
such helpful people at this helpful forum?
Before I go...
In case anyone in the future is as daft as me (and using MacOS) and
lands here
Thanks both, will give it a whirl later and report back.

Thanks, Paul. Will give it a try later. One point tho: I can't close
LMS, because the sysytem prefs place, where I usually switch the server
off and on when required, is also not seeing it. So when I click Stop
Server, nothing happens. Is there another way to do it?
Fiddling with settings in LMS's browser interface, for some reason in
Advanced/Security I changed Block Incoming Connections to Block.
Now, of course, I can't get to the server with any of my players, and I
can't get back into the browser (or the pref panel) -- I'm blocked! ---
