If highway=gazetted is ambiguous and most people are going to be puzzled by highway=non-existent, might I suggest highway=planned or highway=proposed (I occasionally find myself (walking) on highway=overgrown – but I am not suggesting adding this.) 2009/10/22 Evan Sebire e...@sebire.org I

[talk-au] Garmin Handheld with osm and shonkymaps

2009-10-22 Thread Ross Scanlon
Hi All, I'm looking at buying a handheld gps, probably Garmin, that can have the osm maps and shonkymaps loaded. This will mainly be used for bushwalking, thus the shonkymaps, so I'd like to be able to have both available all the time. Is anyone here using a Garmin with osm maps and/or

Hi, I dont know much about shonkymaps, but Im using a Garmin 60Csx with osm+contour maps for bushwalking. I dont miss any map details, and if, I add them.. My opinion about the device: In comparison to other models, the 60Csx delivers the best package in terms of accuracy, device layout and

I'll look into shonkymaps. Thats probably a good backup where OSM still needs improvement. I didnt go for the 76, because its too bulky for me. The 60 series is waterproof to the same standard (IPX7) as the 76. I have tied the device properly to my boat or myself whenever Im on the water. This

Hi Pete, Thanks for that. Most of the areas we are intending on travelling to at the moment have little or no osm coverage, even the roads. So the 4x4 will have the vehicle pc with osm and topo maps on gpsdrive and the hand held will have shonkymaps, which are similar to the topomaps on the

According to Garmin, the limitation of 2GB per mapset was removed in firmware 3.90 for the 60Csx http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=1245 However, there are other limits in terms of tile numbers (I think its 2025), what is probably reached sooner than the size limit. I also

Now the next question, how big (8Gb, 16Gb) a microSD card can these use. I can see no info in the specs and none of the retailers show this either. Actually finally found the answer on the Garmin site. For anyone interested. If at the most recent unit software version, these limitations are:

Thanks for the quote from the Garmin site. So.. if you log at the smallest interval possible (1 sec), you will produce about 12MB of tracklogs per 24 hours. In theory, 12GB is enough space for ]~1000 24-hour-days, but in fact the file system used by Garmin is (or was?) limiting the number of
