I took a peek at this a while back and came to the conclusion that it wasn't as useful as tiling the seamless server because a) it has older data and b) is harder to work with. But it's there, so there's no harm in using it. I think it'd probably make more sense to use a tilecache/stache plugin

Nathan, Relation support is already there. osm2pgsql already builds geometries for route relations. It's just that the current Mapnik style doesn't put shields on them or render them in a visible way. If you want to solve this problem then submit a patch for the Mapnik style -- perhaps using
