I spent 5 minutes trying to find Edinburgh council open data but I
didn't find any. The format seems to be a moot point, if they don't
provide permission for use of the documents - or at least they make them
hard to find.
Once a council recognises the need for open data, I would hope t
ntain the data there. Also, I think
the councils might be confused by any license beyond the most simple
(that is just a guess though), so sharing the data back with the source
might be problematic with OSM (with either the old or new license).
LWG attempt to reduce the legal uncertainty of this, by a definitive
statement?

I adapted my code to spit the data into areas and to handle the whole of
the UK. I noticed that about 90% of the entries claim to be within 1m of
the delivery address. From a few tests, it seems to be true. I can see
the marker in google street view exactly where it should be. We probab
er to patrol so many
pages from abuse, unless I just remove the comment feature...

Ah yes, the recommended tag is good. I didn't notice one had been chosen
(but it is a bit long for my taste). So use
"source=OS_OpenData_StreetView" for verified buildings. And I will
probably change to "source=Auto_OS_OpenData_StreetView" for automatic
tr

original opendata tiles.

would be worth checking what strings are attached to the data by the
licensing. And also we need to consider the implications with our
CC-BY-SA and ODbL situation. I have added a wiki page as a place holder.

Thanks for the offers of help. The task is a very "on again, off again"
affair so expect quiet times and busy times! (Depending on availability

I have updated the 7th series layer with improved accuracy. It seems as
if the Helmert approximation of the OS grid reference to WGS84 was not
accurate enough; I was getting transform errors of approximately 20m.
Also, to my surprise the next biggest error seems to be surveying
errors.
The post code API at http://ernestmarples.com/ was recently discontinued
due to threat of legal action.
They are calling for support including writing to you MP, petitioning
the PM, etc to get the post code database available for non-profit
organisations.
