Yeah - thanks to all and now I'm waiting.
I did the toothpick thing and I figure the best thing is to keep the lowest
quarter of the thing wet in the water.
One of them is a little less than a quarter in the water. I'm concerned a
little that my mode of avocado consumption leaves shallow cuts
Here is another reason to use AA batteries in your headlamp.
Energizer has a new AA battery that may give you a few more minutes of
light in your headlamp.
They are lithium batteries and are not rechargeable.
I presume they have a slightly different chemistry than the previous Energizer

Hmmm. Nice looking cave. But the photo on the web page that shows an
old quarry on the site is not too enticing. And my guess is that the
young timber is two feet tall, replanted after cutting.
Still, it's only $3600 an acre... -- Mixon

I haven't figured out just where the figures in George Veni's memo
about the fees for the International Congress of Speleology came from,
but I figure my registration will cost me $313, adding in the cost of
the NSS convention banquet (included in NSS convention registrations)
and camping
The ICS lasts eight days, versus five days for the NSS convention, so
of course it should cost more. While I haven't had time to do a direct
side-by-side comparison of the two events, my gut feeling is that I
will walk away with about four times the benefit from the ICS than I
would from
You can get BBC, all the PBS stations and oh so much more. Try a google. Even
the tiny stations like Seymour TX KSEY is on the net now.
Does anybody know some really good free stations?
Sure do, David. Try Pandora -- the station that plays only music you like.

Sleaze,
Indeed, that is a most interesting story, as much for the way it was told as
for the content. I have had a few Texas and New Mexico adventures years ago but
they pale by comparison to some of yours. Your travels in Mexico certainly had
a higher danger quotient. I envy your experiences.
I am curious if any of you have already decided
what caves you hope to visit during the week of ICS?
The obvious ones mentioned on the web-site
are:
Honeycreek
Kickapoo Caverns
Punkin Cave
Deep Cave
I presume a few people will go on their own to
Enchanted Rock Cave, or to the railroad tunnel

It's very timely you mention this, David.
I volunteered to head up the Longhorn trips and we have encountered a problem.
We have the go ahead to do a thru trip at Longhorn from the Crownover entrance
and coming out the normal tour entrance during ICS, but it seems the Crownover
entrance has
There are no petroglyphs in Panther, but the paintings are great -- the
visit would have to be planned, since a boat is necessary, but could also
include Parida. It could be that the Shumla School would be willing to put
together a day (or maybe two one-day trips) of site visits for a fee.
David and others,
Yes, there will be many good trips during the ICS. These trips that you
mentioned will be included:
Honeycreek
Kickapoo Caverns
Punkin Cave
Deep Cave
Longhorn Caverns
Most likely a trip or two into the Devil's Sinkhole
Other caves that there will be trips to (off the top of

And oddly, every thread that appears - seems to have been generated more
than a year ago...
I take it that someone else out there, who caves, or reads off topic caving
posts may also be a closet musician - and possibly also might have some
experience controlling music devices with computers
