This is it, the last call for volunteers to speak at the TSA
Convention on Saturday, March 27. We have a great list of speakers,
currently the emphasis is on biospeleology and Mexico caving. Any and
all caving-related topics are welcome, contact me as soon as possible

Karstification (the creation of a landscape that drains internally) can
occur in substances other than limestone, in particular, ice. If you got
liquid methane, it is pretty cold. The broad basins looks to me like
craters. (Look to the upper right of the black and white photo for

Evidently so.
I have hiked a section of White Canyon, Utah, an area I believe is called the
Black Box, and I agree that it is not karst topography. It is mostly, if not
all, formed in sandstone, like other Southern Utah slot canyons. While there
could be limestone layers present, the canyon has been formed

Well, that's a bummer. Sewing is a dying art, and much needed in the caving
world to customize packs, knee pads, caving suits..maybe I should learn how
to use the one my mother left me..

Gee, the reports of my demise are a bit premature. I wrote that report for the

can certainly give you a good head start on the caves that are known on the

Where do they find those idiots to write press releases? That area in
Utah is just a classic stream-dissected plateau, not karst. Look at

To Fofo and all,
With reference to phd comics! One can easily prove any two numbers equal. I
remember this from high school days ugh, 50 some years ago:
Given:
One can maintain the equality of an equation as long as the same operation is
done to both sides.
a+b=cMultiply both
If a is going to turn out to equal b, then a-b has to be 0, therefore in your
first step you multiplied both sides of the equation by 0. In caving terms,
this would be equivalent to the following: If you start out in a cave with 2
stalactites of equal length, and you break both of them off and
Bill,
The problem is in the fourth step. For it to be equivelent you have to
square the whole function on each side not the invidual variables. For
example the square of 2 plus the square of 3 are not equal to the square of
(2+3). Besides a-c is the square root of a2-2ca+c2
not a2-ca+c2
would y'all mind keeping math out of the list, I have more than enough of it
in school, thank you

Multiplying by zero is not a problem; division is. This is
similar to the problem below.
a = b
ab = b2
ab-a2 = b2-a2
a(b-a) = (b+a)(b-a)
a = b+a
1 = 2
