I've just bought a Touch but I have not connected it to my broadband yet
due to password trouble/ misunderstandings(?)
The touch discovers my network connection but it is asking for a
password (WEP 64-bits encryption - 10 digit password) or (WEP 128-bits
encryption - 26 digit password).

My guess is that your password is in ASCII format and the Touch asks for
it in Hexadecimal format. Luckily, you don't need to be bothered with
the details.
1. Just go to www.mikezilla.com/exp0012.html
2. Enter your key in the ASCII Text field and click. The HEX value
appears in the below
I just updated from Server 6.x to 7.51 and now I'm seeing the same here.
No problems with 6.x ... did anybody find a solution for that?

Unless, of course, someone has 'helped' and told flac to encode at some

will do two things: create larger files and corrupt fidelity (ie, it

Greetings from a new Squeezebox touch owner.
My question is about music file formats.
I have been using mp3's and aac's for years.
Just fine for portable units and car audio.
I am planing to use my new Touch in an audiophile grade stereo system.

Welcome to Squeezebox world!
I'd vote for FLAC. It is still lossless and offers far better tag
support. As your collection grows, that becomes a bigger and bigger
issue.
I've done back-to-back comparisons of WAV vs FLAC as well as CD to FLAC
and I find no difference in sound quality.
Of
FLAC ! Tagging is crucial to a good squeezebox experience and lossles is
lossles .
btw sbs transcodes wav to flac anyway to save bandwith on your local
network.
This can of course be disabled but a lot of work for nothing .
And FLAC could be sent as wav to player to with some fiddling, but that
Hi Gents thanks for your feedback but the mystery continues. I do not
seek a higher sample rate than what is native to the CD, the Flac
encoder is the standard WINAMP version and as far as I can see you
cannot vary the rate, even if there is some way of doing this I am not,
therefore all my
Depending on your version of winamp the standard WINAMP version may
not be up to FLAC standards. See this thread:

Your specific symptoms are different, but given that Winamp has been
known to use non-standard FLAC it's at least worth
Hi-
I don't find it too responsive. Rather I find it too small for its
intended use. On the more crowded screens (such as an album song list
or playlist) it is easy to accidentally press the wrong line, as they
are close together.
Also the buttons like next and repeat on the Now Playing screen

I`m currently running 7.6 version of the tinyserver on my touch. It runs
fine, and artwork handling is much better than 7.5. However, the daily
update notifications is a bit irritating and sometimes a new update
crashes the whole thing and I have to reinstall all. Is there a way to
stop these

I am new at this as well. What I have found works for me is to keep the
artwork as an individual file in the album folder. It is critical that
it be tagged identical to the FLAC file in order for it to appear when
looking for a particular album.

You can generally FIND album art on amazon.com.
You CAN embed it

when you are in mp3tag, right click on all the tracks of an album, then
select tag sources in the menu bar, then cover art, then amazon.com,
and the program will find matches for the album art
WinAmp is a great program for many things, but ripping is not one of
it's strong points.
If you want to get serious about your lossless music then you need a
serious ripper with great error correction and standardized formats.
Two examples of well known and well thought of ripping programs:
My 2 cents worth.
I got the Touch in July. I am still in the process of ripping all my
850 CDs to FLAC. I am up to 350 CDS and still counting.
My FLACS are in a QNAP NAS streaming to my HiFi. I have the Touch

Sorry but 7.6 is a beta intended for testing. It needs to do that to
make people provide feedback.
If you don't want to test, run a stable version of the server.
Providing the test platform is THE SOLE REASON why 7.6 is publicly
available.

Try this
1, wire the touch to the router (for test only, listen trough
headphones for example, if you dont happpen to have a long cat5 cable

2, Try with the server installed on a computer.
3, Wired touch and server running on a computer.
You should not disable flac with such tiny cpu
