iPeng also has a landscape mode, yes.
Apart from that: well, you can carry around an iPod and you can't carry
around a SB Touch...
I'm obviously biased (I'm the author of iPeng) but I still think purely
as a controller iPeng is more suited, you usually don't want to walk up
to your controller.
Thank you for clearing up the DAC questions.
But I still have the question; is it better to use the photo input in
my Squeezebox, or do digital out into my receiver and use the
receiver's phono input? Am I overprocessing when I do this?

Vote here for ipeng, once you mastered the instructions! if like me you
just go at it like a bull in a china shop you will find it frustrating!
I always have my iphone with me, but if i didn't have a iphone i think
i'd go out and buy a second hand touch to use as a controller.

Ah misunderstood it a bit :-/ fail (note to self read others posts)
sorry.
There is no separate headphone volume on the Touch so if you want
volume at 100% all time to ensure best digital transfer then it will be
more practical to use the receivers headphone out.

I'll definitely try the squeezeplay to get an idea of the browsing.
And I'll have a look at those browsing plugins. I have to say that I
really like the fact the squeezebox server is open source.

Note that while either SqueezePlay or SoftSqueeze are excellent no-cost
introductions to Squeezebox technology, they are more limited than the
actual hardware SBs. For example, SqueezePlay won't play Pandora unless

I'm sure there is some logging that you can turn on that will include
information about the names of the files played.
Another way to do this is through last.fm. In the player settings you
can turn on scrobbling. From the last.fm website you would be able
to see what songs you played when.

That will depend on the way you set up your ethernet (wired)

I can occasionally get no sound on my setup. I have never managed to

I just purchased a SB Touch to add to my SB family of two receivers

the switch, I am getting several losses on the Touch with rebuffering
