I don't like picking up an iPhone or iPad to do simple quick functions
during music playback such as volume and pause on a Squeezebox Touch.
I would also like to avoid the use of the Duet Controller.
Whereas iPeng for example is excellent - I would rather use a simple
little plastic r/c for

Yes it is exactly that - how did you know? Was this your SBT?
Should I attempt to upgrade this software further?

Hi - as per my question further up - is there a software package that
can further improve the SBT as a transport via it's coax (not USB)
connection?

I am still enjoying the SBT into my AN 0.1x DAC - I'm just wondering
though - can any software updates improve the sound quality of the SBT
as a transport even further?
I know you can get EDO for USB out - but I am just fine using coax.
I am using the SBT over Wi-Fi.

It has the same configuration but it's not that beast of a power supply.
Goes to show what potential you can get out of

Well measurements or not - the linear power supply makes a very big
difference to the sound even when used as a pure transport. I tried the
OK this Touch is sounding exceptionally good with my current Metrum
Octave MK2 DAC (which is a fussy beast) - I wonder how much of that is
attributed to the linear power supply that came with it.
The PSU is a MCRU two box design with the small regulator box nearer the

I've just bought a Squeezebox Touch - complete with high quality linear
PSU - and I'm happy to see that this forum is still going strong in
2021.
Has anyone returned to the SBT after owning a high-end streamer for
whatever reason?
There are so many alternatives / choices out there - Bluesound,
OK, back on track, if the Tidal app on LMS can be configured to allow
MQA files to pass through "that would be fantastic".

I too am frustrated by the Tidal app on LMS not passing through MQA

I'm running Daphile on a computer as my LMS, Squeezelite, iPeng overall

Thanks - if I can get Qobuz working fully on the SBT that'll be sweet
(saves me forking out on a AURALiC Aries).
I worry though, how much longer can the SBT carry on for? This year in
particular I've seen bigger strides with the likes of the Aries Mini,
and for even less outlay, the Chromecast
... but I would rather save money and stream Qobuz through the SBT if
anyone knows how to do this reliably.
I could use a Chromecast Audio (because Qobuz is a castable
application), or indeed invest in the AURALiC Aries Mini, but I already
own and SBT so if it works with an SBT then all's well
There I was talking about resurrecting the SBT - but now I see a new and
very viable alternative - the AURALiC Aries Mini - perhaps I should let
the SBT go and use the money towards the AURALiC.

The little box looks ideal - $95 - "phew" the spdif input costs more
than the whole unit! Anyway, how much does this translate to be in UK

Nah sorry - I'm a Leo - take a look at that list and find the weakness.

So generally speaking, is the community here finding that the USB link
to a USB DAC better sounding than the coax out to a DAC?

OK thanks - I guess I could try and see for myself. I upgraded LMS to
7.9 then as a result the SBT updated to 7.8, is that expected? I assume
that the SBT doesn't go to 7.9 matching LMS version in this case.
Also perhaps I am imagining things but the SBT seems to sound better on
7.8, is this by
I haven't tried updating to 7.9 yet, but will do soon - however, I do
find that device so nice to use via the iPeng app on the iPhone.
Actually I know you mentioned 7.9 Beta, but did I read somewhere that
there's special software that allows me to directly connect the SBT to
the Arcam irDAC via

These are Beta versions - is this still safe?
I'm using an external DAC in the shape of an Arcam irDAC to improve the
sound.
Well I thought I would fiddle and fart about with the SBT once again, I
do like the features, but currently I'm running on the official firmware
- what's the latest with these units? Are they still relevant? To get
the best out of it should I be running other firmware / software?
It also looks
After reading the article by the Lampizator about how good the Duet
sounds as a transport - does the Duet actually sound better in stock
form than the later Touch model?
I'm not interested in hi-res and would only used the coax connection -
so with that in mind - which would make for the better
I like your kit list - I've always liked the sound of those multibit
ladder DACs - how is your performing on the end of your SBT. Are you
getting the best out of your Metrum?

I have a friend I am trying to convince that his hi-end CD player should

I ask this after reading an interesting article about the importance of

Sorry, of course, LMS is the server part only. However 'Audio Station'
is built into the NAS - would that be a good alternative music streaming
application so that I could still plug the DAC directly into the USB

Actually it looks like you can plug a USB DAC directly into their
DiskStation when using Audio Station as a media player using their USB
DAC as an example seen from this link:

Hopefully being Linux it will work with my USB DAC

Why are you all bothering with the EDO mod to allow for USB out when
instead you could simply use a small slim computer instead? I am not

Excellent John, so in summary, a good example of an async USB DAC is the
MDAC, therefore with the well engineered MDAC, there is no need for an
intermediate re-clocker (or any form of clock upgrade), simply because
the MDAC is one example of a well implemented async USB DAC, is that
right?
This
Wow SBGK - I've been looking at your blog - and its very interesting.
For those of you who have replied about not bothering with tweaks take a
look at SBGK's blog! This guy is a masterful tweaker and is getting
results.
Of course you need a resolving system to appreciate the tweaks no doubt
This list of reasonably priced DACs could go on, but they have gotta be
good to sigificantly improve on the SBT DAC... so I will add two more
excellent DACs to this list:
Stan Beresfords new Bushmaster DAC
Goldenote DAC-7 (Italian DAC but superb).
Thanks Pascal - good to know. However with the MDAC you have the
opportunity to try the EDO applet - you can alway try, then revert back
to how it was if necessary. Who knows, the sound quality might go from
'excellent' to 'sublime'.
will never have ticks with USB, even with the current
Synchronous-Adaptive protocols.
