I Have a ReadNAS Duo, its a pile of S speed wise and not much faster
just as a Network drive. Mines have been relegated to an Apple Time
machine backup drive. So one to avoid!

This is my solution for a DIY NAS (which I actually use and have used
for years)
- get the cheapest CPU+RAM+MOBO combination you can find (a mainboard
with onboard video and at least 6 SATA ports is preferable)
- get a well ventilated big comuter case, one that will have slots for
10-12 HDDs/opti

Good news:
Here is a thread that says that the server software can be run on the
GoFlex:

So it should be possible to use the GoFlex to host the music server.
Then you do not need to have your PC running while playing mu

Hi LJG
I am in a similar position to you. The posts that your entry follows
are quite old and I suspect that the market is changing very rapidly.
Not long ago a NAS seemed to be a "mini-server" and cost a couple of
limbs - without a hard-disk installed!
More recently, it looks to me as though man
I purchased the SB-Touch today because I wanted to stream music from my

up and running in about 30 minutes. Installing the Squeezbox server on
the nas was easy just follow the step by step guide on the logitech

I'm new to this forum-- and squeezebox in general-- but this seemed to
be an appropriate thread.
I have just purchased a Touch. My computer lacks sufficient storage to
stream all the FLAC files I've accumulated and which are currently
spread over multiple external hard-drives.
I tried attaching
Many thanks to all who responded. Have gone down the netgear route and
am currently copying files.

I Second the vote for the Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus. Officially
supported by Logitech and fast. Do not get the ReadyNAS Duo if you want
to stream any format that requires transcoding to the Touch (it's too
slow). Actually, forget the Duo for anything other than basic file
sharing.

Two different issues here:
1. a NAS to hold your tunes?
2. a NAS to hold your t
Hi Phil,
I'd enjoy a thread on the subject. Unfortunately I am too busy at the
moment so this will have to wait a bit for me.. I use the new
pre-ringing setting in 4.1 and like it, using default settings for a
single measurement/correction. Hopefully I can find time to experiment
more during the

I am using a QNAP TS-110 and it works well. I am very happy with it in
fact. But I have to agree with John that a Vortexbox is much easier
and better (from what I have read - I don't have any actual
experience).
I went the NAS route because I believed that it would be the cheapest

Your best bet is to get a VortexBox appliance, it comes with all the

Although it means I can have my music without the PC, it does have
reliability issues. Which is the best NAS to use?
