I'm not talking about improving on the TOUCH DAC (which is quite good).
I'm talking about potentially improving on crappy sound cards that
convert everything to 16/48 no matter what and do other odd things.
edit: and of course one doesn't need a $10k DAC to improve on such

Fair point but to my ears, external DAC's don't improve any on the

agree! Optical out from TOUCH to Denon amp digital input is very likely
the best possible way to use the Denon amp with a Touch. (and also

my touch is connected to denon by optican cable, how should i do to use

does the Denon have analog (RCA) inputs (right/left). And if so, does
the Denon allow passthrough of the analog signal without reconverting it
I have a Peachtree DAC iT and cannot hear a difference with the Touch's

Until recently I was using a mk 1 Cambridge Audio DACMagic. Can't
comment on the DACMagic Plus, but the standard one is definitely lower
end as far as DACs go - but still streets ahead of the Touch's built-in
DAC. You will not fail to hear an improvement. I'm always amazed when I
see comments

Then you're already NOT using the Touch's DAC. You are instead using the
Denon's DAC. And if you add a DAC in between the TOUCH and the Denon,
it will still be using the Denon DAC unless the Denon

The vast majority of AV amps just run the analog inputs trough an AD
converter and it's then aviable just like any other source and then
outputs thought the built in DA converters .
It makes sense ona lot

I've managed to get the Touch to play through a USB DAC but it seems to
have killed the internal sound effects. I've made sure the volume is up
and the appropriate options are selected, and tried several reboots. Is
this to be expected, and can I bring them back if so? If not, does
anyone know
The problem usually has to do with ALSA card numbers. The music goes
to the default ALSA device. The schemes for USB change what actual
device is called default so the musiv goes to the USB DAC. The
effects channel is hardcoded to go to device 2. When a USB DAC is
plugged in it usually manages to
