I get untrusted connection (certificates) with all of these.
This one too

Didn't notice that. It IS a serious security issue. point.
precisely that - man in the middle. it doesn't happen often, but it can.
thanks maslowski!
It is common knowledge that each website you visit gets you ip address, along
with your user agent and many other information
(language,fonts,plugins,screen size...)
I have a dynamic ip that changes several times each day. I don't need nor
want to hide it. I'm not worried about that.
If I
Young Boris says in that post that he doesn't run the server on which the
image is hosted. I beleive he's lying and just trolling.
Don't know much about drupal or html. I'd like to learn. Maybe I will some
day.
Anyway - thank you for the explanation onpon!
I find the default (mint green) html5 login screen very very ugly. I used
mint for a couple of months - one of the first things I did was to change the
login screen - I liked the autumn login screen (don't know if you know what
I mean - the one with bare trees and the leafy path- it was
sudo apt-get remove --purge name of the program
(example - vlc)
sudo apt-get remove --purge vlc
I was recently reading some old posts on this forum when I came across this
https://trisquel.info/en/forum/i-can-easily-steal-your-privacy-data-even-disabled-cookies-and-javascripts
Now, this dude wants you to click on a link (a gif) and he is able to get
your ip and user agent.. this is no
andrew - I see, drupal; didn't know that - it is scary!!
The part you don't understand - the young troll posts several users' ips -
and if you look at some point you' ll find the ip you are on right now in
this moment - drupal also?
magic - I know about useragent - you can change it by override in about:conf
or use blender- I get 13 bits in panopticlick. If I want I can do further
changes in the firefox advanced setting and get 8.4 ..
but that's not the point - the point is that Boris was able to put his code
on the
Trisquel just as Ubuntu doesn't include gparted by default.
As Magic B. said, gparted is used during installation in order to create the
partitions, but when Trisquel is installed there's no gparted.
I would like it included just as I would like vlc, icedove, goldendict, xbmc etc
etc all
I've been studying those addons a lot and especially the combination of
various addons in order to provide the best security/privacy without slowing
down my already slow netbook..
I use - adblock edge, blender, click clean (set to delete everything on
browser exit), https everywhere,
Proprietary software is not the solution. It is the problem.
word bro!!
removing compton makes it a little snappier but then I find my screen
flickers (boards of the screen) each time I open something from the panel and
it is very annoying.. Better to keep it. The performance gain is minimal
anyway
this message is for everyone (not only jodiendo).
I will state again my opinion about this voting/downvoting - I DON'T like it!
It is stupid, useless and facebook shajt resembling.. if I like or dislike
someone's post i will say it clearly with human words - don't need some
stupid - or + to
Today I tried trisquel 7.0 on two laptops at my friends' just out of
curiosity.
It worked perfectly on an Asus with intel graphics (can't remember the model
though) ,graphics, resolution, wifi .. all smooth and flawless.
The second laptop I tried - Acer Aspire 7740 (somehow I remembered to note
One last thing - If someone makes a laptop that has 100% open hardware -
nothing proprietary - no bios, no firmware, no cpu etc etc .. and above this
it has hardware specs that are decent (like a good 1000 bucks laptop you can
buy nowadays) then I will be very happy and willing to spend 2000
I don't like this voting shajt - indeed I gave -1 to each post in order to
state it clearly..
vote comments!? What is this - shajtbook?
Calling it GNU would be 99% accurate..
As for the binary blobs and backdoors - no one knows what proprietary code
hides.. It is always better to not having any on your pc.. Can you trust
canonical? can you trust micro$$oft? No and again no!
Stick to gnome or lxdle - those two are officially supported DEs by the
trisquel community. Gnome works flawlessly and is very customizable and good
looking.
to install an app in trisquel - go to terminal and type:
sudo apt-get install name of program
exmple - to install vlc - sudo apt-get
Can someone help me understand why should I spend 2000 bucks on a laptop that
has non-free bios and non-free firmware?
Correct me if I'm wrong - can't I just look a bit around and find a very
decent 800 $ or less provided it has an intel graphics card and a freedom
friendly wireless card???
preferences - playback - uncheck crossfade between tracks
I won't quidam...as long as it is absolutely clear that I disagree
:)
I guess you mean open source commercial software..
here you go bro!

javascript has always been turned off for me since I first understood how
many problems ,especially security wise, it can introduce..
always off..
jodiendo - don't take this negatively. I don't mean to be rude. I appreciate
reading you posts in the troll hole but I really don't appreciate when you
criticize Trisquel without explaining what bugs you are talking about. I am
not a gnulinux expert nor am I a programer. I do some basic
yeaa dude - gimp is da bomb!!
:)
other magnificent applications are (my favs) - xbmc, popcorn-time, jitsi,
goldendict, minitube..
and many many others.
viva free software!!
I've been wondering if any of you guys have tried tox voip?
I installed it today, tried talking to a friend who uses ubuntu. No luck..
chat works ok but sound is choppy or not working, I hear a strong echo of my
own voice and very little fragments of my friend's. video is very slow and
low
4. Websites that use JavaScript for 'fingerprinting' the user (also note
that, paradoxically, not running JavaScript makes a user more unique)
andrew i've enjoyed reading your post and agree with you. but the point 4. is
not true. at least not for me - tried with several computers..
Java
Andrew . SADLY you are right - not many users disable javascript. I see what
you are talking about - if one disables javascript then he sticks out, for
few people do that. But in the same time disabling javascript makes you less
footprintable..Not to mention the security benefits that come
Am talking about javascript!! Anyway thanks for pointing that out lembas - i
see i wrote java two times - what I really meant was javascript
ciaouzzz!!
A wifi adaptor might not be low-pricy for everyone. Some people are less
fortunate financially.
Anyway I agree - it is worth it , definitely !!
Sure it would be nice to have an alternative to java script. sadly I don't
see that coming soon. As someone pointed out - disable javascript globaly!!!
Donate to Giorgio Maone and use his incredible addon - noscript!!!
Yea that's right -
NOOO

I understand you are using the USB stick to install trisquel.
That error almost certainly happened because something is wrong with the
image on the usb key.
Verify the iso you downloaded - in terminal - md5sum nameoftheiso.iso
See if the output of the md5sum is correct (otherwise re-download
now correct me if i'm wrong- it should be very possible to install trisquel
without internet connection if the user has downloaded the full iso (that is
-not net install but the 1.5 gb iso of trisquel 7). During installation one
can also select i don't want to use internet connection right
Have you tried in terminal -alsamixer- and see if everythin is set
properly?
Apple, google and even microsoft along with many other big players have all
contributed to the linux kernel. That is a fact. Fortunately we are talking
about open-source code that can be and is being constantly reviewed by the
comunity.
Don't get me wrong onpon4 - what I'm saying is - I
If you really care about sofware freedom and value your privacy I'd like to
suggest you not to use anything made by google...
bd idea
ponpon4 - seriously? tinfoil hat? is that supposed to be funny? So original
you are..
google is by far the worst company on internet as far as privacy is
concerned. That is a fact. I avoid google products and don't have any respect
nor trust in anything google does. We are talking about an
Hwdy fellow trisquelians!!
I use minitube to view youtube vids without the need of flash or even a
browser.
A fairly secure way to enjoy YT..
Now I have this issue - If I set 360p as max quality videos are reproduced
flowlessly smooth. no problems at all.
Setting 1080p or 720p and
i WILL watch it :-)
I used ubuntu,lubuntu,xubuntu,debian,mint; tried lxle,puppy and gnewsense
I switched to Trisquel a month ago and have been using it quite intensively
since then - have to say - Trisquel is one shiny gem!!
I use glasses and with them on I see perfectly. I thought orca was pretty
annoying when i installed trisquel 'cause the vast majority of people are not
going to use it. But then on second thought i reckoned it was a good thing, a
very good thing indeed, for it is very simple for me to remove
https://stallman.org/facebook.html
A lot of reading here. Some of it made me think. Some made me lol.
alonsogonzalez - I understand you're being sarcastic - but please don't
compare windblowz and gnu/linux - those are as distant and diverse as a
ferrari and a fiat punto.. Try installing windows 7 or b.. 8 on a
it's been desplazado!! ay ay buen hombre :-)
nada alij. Es que me hiciste sonreir con este post.. 'night dude. buenas
noches!!

Which free e-mail service do you reckon is the best (security and privacy
wise) ??
Which one do you use?
I have used debian and xubuntu. I avoided non-free closed-source programs or
drivers. I was fine with those OSes. Not long ago I read a book on R.M
Stallman and Free software - I immediately understood the importance of
having a 100% free OS and entirely embraced the free software
backup your data and do a fresh install of trisquel.
I've been researching this a little bit more. DuckDuckGo is indeed hosted by
Amazon. I had no idea. I will not use DDG anymore. I have no respect or trust
for anyone doing business with Amazon.
I'll use exclusively ixquick from now on.
onpon4 - I am pretty aware that privacy is not
marioxcc - thanks for the whois input. The matter is, as I already posted- I
don't respect nor do I trust anybody doing business with Amazon.
DDG's privacy policy is pretty good. Thing is - I suspect there is a fair
probability, being that the servers belong to Amazon, that the key for the
trinux - I just saw that link after posting the previous comment.. That is
exactly the reason why I hate Amazon.
That is one neat solution. Thanks rakyi !!
I've been using duckduckgo alongside lxquick for years.
Today I've read this article and several others dealing with the same topic.
http://techrights.org/2014/05/11/duckduckgo-no-no/
This made me sad.
Can anyone confirm if DDG is indeed hosted by amazon?
unity!!?? are you for real? lol
I will post this here because I like trisquel and its users. It might help
someone if they run in a similar situation..
A few days ago I bought a new router for my wireless comodity for the old one
got bricked after I fiddled with various versions of ddwrt :-)
Now, immediately after setting
Thank you very much. Keep up the good work. Your effort is highly
appreciated. :-)
I like the new style - it is sooo trisquel!!
On Trisquel 7 RC Icecat addon page is indeed missing. Gnash doesn't work.
Duckduckgo and some other websites behave funny..
What I did is - removed icecat. installed noscript, adblock edge, https
everywhere. Modified manually the user agent. I did the panopticlick test
(panopticlick.eff.org)
windoze is for decepticons anyways!
to comment further..
lets see - would someone rather install windbloooz and then spend a rather
long time locking it up, installing antivirus-antimalware-antyspyware and all
that sh.t , defragmenting the drive, optimizing registry and all kind of
stupid
From the Tor website:
If your attacker can watch the traffic coming out of your computer, and also
the traffic arriving at your chosen destination, he can use statistical
analysis to discover that they are part of the same circuit.
Don't get me wrong guyzz - tor is great software and under
I'm late on this one. Anyway.. Why would anyone use Tor this way. It seems to
me very silly especially if the reason behind usin Tor is something important
that requires true anonimity. Disable the feature completely in
abrowser/icecat and if you need Tor than use Tails. Anyhow personally I
