Perhaps this will be attended to as well some day.
We do not like I-types, as we cannot use dict fields beyond 10 for out data
entry parameters, and inadvertently printing the dict item kills the
session. Maybe one day we can get rid of them again.

Why not use a subroutine? You say you don't want to, then describe
just what a subroutine is: a block of code for a specific purpose
(hopefully documented at the top), with RETURN to get out back to the
main code.
Personally, I like subroutines!

We use it to add a subfield if there is data, but not to add blank
subfields. Great!
New behaviour is not as if $OPTIONS EXTRA.DELIM is set (thanks Ray), as it
only adds one extra delim. Still not suitable when keeping several items in

Thanks Ray.
We have (stupidly, it seems) relied on the -1 behaviour, using it when I
want to add a subfield if there is data, but not to add a blank subfield.
I shall report this as a bug, but if the change in behaviour of user number
is any guide, I don't expect much response. (sigh!)

When you do Ctl-F to find a word you have highlighted, it no longer defaults
to look for that word. You now have to highlight, Ctl-C, Ctl-F, Ctl-V to do
the same thing. Same for Ctl-H to replace.
Change in behaviour of HOME key is driving one of our people mad, too.

Is there any reason why you can't make a DOS (UV type 19) file out, move it
around however you like, and read it back into UD?
Can anyone tell me how to define and assign a "virtual tape file" so I
can
T-DUMP from UV and T-LOAD onto UD?

Hi Al,
Is LOCATE different in UniData & UniVerse?
I think your ELSE is the problem - it is taken if the item is not found.
Try:
LOCATE(PART.NBR,RECORD,14;'AL',POS) ELSE
INS PART.NBR BEFORE RECORD<14,POS>
END
Good luck! Kate

I tried this, and 2nd program gave a compile error.
If I added another line (* only) to the end of the 1st (included) file, and
tried again, it compiled OK.
We are on UV10.1.10 PICK format, on WIndows 2000.
Unlikely, but worth a go!

Hi Sunny,
Are you doing it as a subroutine call or an execute?
If a subroutine call hits an input (eg record locked), it never comes back.
We wrap subroutine calls around an execute for this reason.
Execute should come back, with appropriate status (waiting for input, buffer
full, or at end
Have you thought of using REFORMAT instead of SORT, so the data is easier to
handle? I agree, tabs would be better than commas as delimiters.

Yes! We found it so slow we immediately reverted to the VB3 version, while
seeing if we can find a way around it. We have put very little time into it
since - rather discouraged.

Has anyone else had problems with the new .Net UV objects being slow?

Hi David,
Just about all we ever do is call a subroutine to set up parameters in
common, execute a function to run the subroutine, then call a subroutine to
get the resulting parameters.
The most frustrating thing about this is that it cannot be repeated. It
will fall over doing something it has
