So far it works well with TCP using netcat, nmap and some bash script.

Maybe this is a silly question, but, I can see no reference what so ever
that it recognizes Core0 (CPU0) in that dmesg, which makes me wonder.
It recognizes the CPU ID correctly though, as far as I know.
Gotta test on mine at home and see if there is a similiar output.

Here an addition. I'm not sure, if no one has tested this before, but it does
not seem to be mentioned here.
The connection is not slow if I am not using WPA. Connecting via WEP to a
Linksys 802.11bg Router / AP works fine. Connecting to a 802.11a unencrypted
network is very fast, too.

are there any browerser / mail clients (or mail client modes) that will
work at 14.4 kbps net connections.
Reason i have a winmodem that is using the free version of an hfsmodem
driver that is restricted to 14.4 kbps. So till i can get the full
version wanted to freek ;) out on the 14.4 kbps
Well, it was calm for a while, and then out of a sudden, it started
flickering like crazy again. I wish I knew what triggered it. I tried
closing applications until only a shell and browser windows remained,
but that didn't stop the flickering.
