I use rsync to back up my work regularly.
the command used for the /home directory is
rsync -av /home/ram/ /media/backup_disk/bak_home/
this however backups all the hidden folders as well - some of them of
course are useful to have backed up but in most cases they seem to take
up valuable

I was playing around with gstreamer and libwildmidi.
It seems that gstreamer runs WildMidi_Init() from libwildmidi each time a song

I tried running the suggested command and it failed - unable to connect.
I tried a number of things (tried to make sure SQLLITE was installed etc) and
got no where.
however - eventually I looked to see if photos.db existed and it did...
and as I couldnt seem to login to look at the Schema, i

Well Michael I think this is due to a bad upgrade. After a bit of
research I fell back to the Gutsy kernel (esc from grub prompt) I have
downloaded and burnt a CD then ran the live CD without updating my hard

I'm having the same problem. I am able to change if use Gnome/OpenBOX
but not with Compiz. Interesting. nVidia as well.

i tried to use fdisk -l to see if any thing makes sense
here it is

edited my /boot/grub/device.map
to show the following
(hd0) /dev/sda
(hd1) /dev/sdb
edited the /boot/grub/menu.lst
as follows

root=UUID=9be80552-9983-4062-b4da-1247596cbbae resume=/dev/sdb1
When my internet connection went down (ISP problem) the invest-applet
crashed. When my internet connection came back up again it crashed
again.

Each time I use Openoffice Calc, for a while, the keyboard is not
responding anymore, I can't write anything in any programs... I'm not

Im a novice user still, but i'll wipe my system and start bisecting in the
upcoming weekend, then post my results if i succeed.
The problem with the laptop crashing is that i loose all access to the system,
so that im only able to type sysrq-reisub. If any logs are kept
symptoms, upgrade Ubuntu Edgy to Feisty or installation of Feisty, Gutsy
or Hardy dead mouse. Not able to finish the installation or dead in the
water after upgrade. Applicable to older system using the intel i8042
chipset. So you may be better of using Xbuntu which also has this
problem.

I also facing the same problem. I also made some further
investigations.
1. login into the system and run the system monitor only. You will
notice that the available memory will slowly decrease as the time goes
by.
2. Boot up your system and do not login and wait for 3 or 4 hours, most
likely
Further investigation of this problem points to memory leak problem. If
I boot up the system without login, the same thing happens.

NOOP is a term derived from my days programming in assembler. NOOP
being on of the instructions that tells the assembler to do nothing.
Please excuse me as I thought the term was still widely used or maybe it
just dates me.
In this case Edit/Preferences did nothing. All I got was a
quick fix to this problem
