I use the HP_LaserJet_M1536dnf_MFP, which is good but the paper feeder
stopped working after 2 years, and this is a pricey one. About 22k. I use
the HPLIP drivers. But I have used HP 6L, HP 1018 etc too, without any
problem.

As for firefox 15 beta 6, firefox just silently fails.
Eg: trying to upload the unreadable file (eg: echo test.txt;chmod 000
test.txt) result in nothing happening when cliking on submit (tested on

some CSS files are missing when doing the Save Page As / Web Page,

Instead of using 'dpkg -i' I suggest that you copy the .deb files to
/var/cache/apt/archives/ and then use synaptic package to install
software.
dpkg is not a package manager, synaptic is.

I have installed Karmic on a Lenovo X41 thinkpad, which came with XP. Karmic
is on a separate partition and works fine. But I can not boot to XP anymore.
And it seems that the boot configs are changed. I can not find
/boot/grub/menu.lst to edit.

it running from a LiveUSB stick on a Asus EeePC 7 inch, 512MB, Atom

Sorry you've had to switch off your video card. I have no experience of
GeForce 2 so can not suggest anything. Mine does work, only I have to reset
the config everytime I login. That is a pain too.

nvidia-xconfig are installed. The version of the driver is 169.12. I am
downloading the current version from nvidia.com and intend to install it
to see if that will make any difference.

X server is running, I can
stop X server if I boot to a root shell from the grub menu, but that is
runlevel 1 and the driver installer is complaining about that. What to
do?
