Indeed the sound is working with kernel 2.6.20-6.11. I tested both the
2.6.20-6-generic and the 2.6.20-6-lowlatency version, and both are doing
fine with sound. Both also fine with nvidia driver for graphic.

Hi Bryce,
it has become a bit more complicated: after activation of a ppa
repository, the blue screen is fixed on both systems, but a "black
screen" showed up on one of them.
The activated repository - the same on both - is :

I don't understand your question. mythtv is started from the gnome
desktop.
to add: the "p" key does pause and continue any replay (as it should),
but again, there is no on-screen display as found on other installs. You
get no feedback of what keys you have pressed.

Nope. This computer had a fresh install from a jaunty-alpha5 CD, and
everything had been wiped out by the install of jaunty.

Update:
I used an *Hardy* Kubuntu Live CD on the same computer, and the webcam was
recognized by default. The picture under Cheese was correct with proper colors.
Possibly interesting note: The picture was color correct ONLY as long as the
light was rather dark. As soon as the camera looked into
indeed I am using an existing backend, and several frontends, with back-
and frontends having gone through some changes from feisty to intrepid,
and always worked.
So, what is different with jaunty? Do I need to change settings on the
jaunty frontend? or on the intrepid backend? and if on the latt
