Thanks Bryce. If you can think of anything else I could try to help
you to localize the problem, please let me know.

@lcampagn, well, I don't see an IRQ conflict in the /proc/interrupts file.
Have you found you have the same issue with Intrepid or Jaunty? Keyboard
handling switched to the -evdev driver in Intrepid, so it would be good for you
to retest. If you can reproduce the issue in Jaunty, we can forw
Happens to me as well.
When I adjust the brightness with function keys, afterwards the keyboard
doesn't work at all. Alt+Backspace does bring it back after I log in
again. I can replicate this at will.
One additional note, I can't move windows or click on menu items either
when this occurs.

This started happening to me too after I installed 8.10 on my Dell E1505

If I try to change the screen brightness, the keyboard stops working and

I've noticed a similar problem with 8.10. This hasn't happed in prior
versions (back to 6.10).
I'm running a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop with an nVidia graphics card.
The problem (no keyboard response, but mouse OK and CTL-ALT-Backspace will

I see this exact problem with Ubuntu 8.04 on my x60. I'm using gnome. On
every ~5th resume or so, the keyboard quickly stops working. It works
long enough for me to unlock the session, but then quickly stalls. I too
see the network manager applet trying to reconnect but failing.
This problem persi

Strange--I've often found that changes to xorg.conf do not take effect
after logging out, only if I explicitly
I'm afraid that I can't post /proc/interrupts, as I no longer have
access to that machine. It was a Thinkpad T42 though for the record, so

lcampagn, unfortunately the /procs/interrupts attachment didn't attach -
would you mind trying again? Please also attach your Xorg.0.log; it may
be of use to compare with Michael's, or may provide additional clues.
