than saving operating system. Are you able to mount the windows partition(s)
in ubuntu? If so, copy the data first into a removable media and then try to
save the O.S.

Boot from a live CD and go to partition editor. Turn the windows drive active.
Or else if you can do ths, install a pirated windows on a new small
(say 5 GB Partition) go to disk management by right clicking My
Computer, click the inactive partion and make it active.

from any xp cd, go to the recovery console and type fixboot and
fixmbr. Mind you, this will get rid of GRUB from the master boot

My father had got a new lenovo laptop from his office with original win xp
proffessional.i wanted to test ubuntu on it keeping the windows and all its
settings.so i made a partition of 100 gb using partition manager to install
ubuntu there.but while loading ubu
it isnt possible to diagnose the problem with such minimal information.
Firstly, run a memtest on ur ram and secondly, post some logs available in
ur /var/logs directory so that we can get more information.

hey guys
thanks 4 all ur support. i am new to ubuntu and i have installed ubuntu karmic
in my desktop which has P4 2.4 Ghz processor and 1 GB RAM. I have VLC
installed in ubuntu. Whenever i play any mp3 file or any movie in vlc or any
other player it plays fine for the first 2-3 mins and
