I managed to kill it by turning the LifeDrive back on (it had gone to
sleep) and initiating a HotSync, which did not work. I had previously
sent several -9 signals to it, so I assume those made it through once it

I did not have linux-backports-modules-jaunty installed. I installed
it, and it did wake up properly after a suspend-remove-wake cycle.
(Sorry about the delay in responding; I had meant to try this a few

Yes, it does seem to work if I issue 'sudo rmmod ath5k' before I start
the suspend. I can then remove the card while the system is suspended
and it will wake up properly.

I set up an 8.10 JeOS VM and went straight to apt-get install finch.
The list of dependencies is now, to put it mildly, friggin HUGE... but
dbus is in there.
I'd say this is fixed, though I have not actually tried installing it.

receiver does not always unstick the boot; lately I have found that in a
majority of (but not all) cases, simply waiting it out will cause the

With kernel 2.6.27-7 (and others prior), my Presario R3000 will often
hang during boot if a device is connected to one of its USB 2.0 ports.
The USB 1.0 port on the right side does not cause the problem.
Very rarely, I can get the boot to resume again by removing the device
I explained the problem to the hal list, since it doesn't look like this
problem has ever surfaced there.

Shouldn't the -71 and -96 legacy drivers be made incompatible on a
package level with the new xorg?
Something like Requires a version before whatever version the ABI change
was made on. It seems to me it should not be possible to install these
drivers on a system they will not work on.

On a new gutsy install (now hardy), they definitely made my eyes/head
hurt before I tried 'best shapes'. Eventually I xmag'd and found the
fringing was a problem.
I've had similar trouble with ClearType on Windows, which fringes

rendering going on in your shot. Rather, it seems like a hinting issue.
