I switched to the nouveau driver. After that I had resolution problems
(only 800x600 instead of 1280x1024). I found out that the kvm swich
cannot handle edid (ddc). So I substituted the kvm switch from Belkin
Switch2 USB (Model # F1DG102U-USB) to Digitus DC-11403. In the end the

I've been getting these panel corruptions regularly but randomly since
installing Lucid. Sometimes panel items missing, sometimes they sort of
double themselves and overlap. Sometimes the speaker icon, for
instance, is just not properly formed. Same goes for the other icons -
sometimes!

Moving back to run lucid with the karmic kernel (latest in that release
2.6.31-14-generic) I get no freezes at all, which supports this being
kernel rather than xorg.

At this time i've resolved to start the system on safe mode, then
after the consolle login manually start kdm (/sudo /etc/init.d/kdm
start).
In this mode the system starts ok, in Normal mode I need to restart
(ctr+alt+del) 2/ 3 times.

file /etc/init/kdm.conf and inserted a

I hit this issue running 9.10 on a Dell 2400 with integrated Intel
graphics chip 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]. Intermittently, probably once a
day at least, the screen would freeze, with no pointer or keyboard
response. ssh to the box did work. Restarting X or gdm did not work.

I think it is not a problem caused by dkms, as no dkms directory has
been created in /var/lib/dkms

install flash player with firefox plugin detection and it did failed to
activate

splash and add drm.debug=0x02. The result was that kernel messages
ran across the laptop screen at some low resolution until reaching the

Ok. So there are two problems in this bug - X starting in 1280x800 by
default, and the 1024x768 resolution not being usable.
X not starting in 1280x800 is due to a mis-detected TV output
connection, resulting in X trying to find a shared mode for the TV
