Alright, this bug is 1.5 years old, but I am still keen on getting it fixed.
I can confirm that with Windows the touchpad works 100% fine. With Linux, it's
absolutely awful.
I am installing Maverick right now, to see if it still does it -- I
doubt it will be fixed, but you never know.

Sorry for the delay in handeling the bug. Actually we are always short
for volunteers here. I have seen that the bug report has not been
prperly triaged at all.
As soon as you will install maverick, (try fresh install) using live
USB, please report back and then we can start the triaging

The default setting is certainly not in my hands, thats the upstreams
job and certainly ubuntu won't like to shift from upstream's decision as
well. Whatever they have in their mind they have good reasons to do
that.
So, in essence, I think this wasn't a bug. In that I'm closing the bug
report.
I think, it is not so hard, to wait for 11.04. Now we can use desktop
session with window-picker upplet in gnome panel and maximus runnig.
Anyway, Ubuntu is most usable linux distribution now.

300 to 400ms time interval) after you stop scrolling and start again...

I have the same problem with my notebook with an ATI Xpress 200M videocard. The
only difference is - my screen corruptions are coloured.
Sometimes I see this bug when I am watching a video with an Gnome MPlayer and
switching to another window (or just moving a cursor), sometimes it happens
One other thing - when this bug happens, I can switch to another
terminal (by Ctrl+Alt+F1, for example). So, I can kill a process from
there. Sometimes I have to kill a Firefox, sometimes - a video player.
After that I get a working system with no screen corruptions. Until the
next time,
I booted maverick release CD with radeon.new_pll=0 but it did not affect this
issue.
I will now install/update to check the kernel from the PPA and report back.

I have been experiencing this problem since installing 10.04 Lucid LTS
on a Dell Inspiron 530. If I don't use the machine for a period of time,
the monitor goes into power save mode and then I get a window telling me
that Ubuntu is running in low-resolution graphics mode. If I look at the
X log
I also have an SSD so core i-7, x-58, nvidia driver, and SSD seem like a
common theme. I already did a clean re-install of 10.04 so i can't test or
post any logs, but I wanted to note the hardware commonality.

A little update from me: Mixxx 1.8.1 works fine the past two weeks.
After the freeze, i went into my bios settings and everything was
screwed big time. After fixing that, my computer doesn't freeze anymore
even if mixxx runs with compiz. Just the normal misbehaves.

I can confirm the following: Genius G-Pen 560 works if you rename
10-aiptek.conf file to 50-aiptek.conf (which is suggested on the
community page, though it took me two hours of fiddling with it to
actually notice that suggestion).
Everything works, including pressure sensitivity (tested in Gimp)
Installed the new driver, unpinned x-server, upgraded and all is working
well.

I have the same issue here. After trying everything I found a
workaround:
1. Go to terminal #1 (Ctrl+Alt+F1):
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
sudo Xorg -nolisten tcp :0
2. Go to terminal #2 (Ctrl+Alt+F2):
gnome-session
Now you have an X session running. If Xorg crashes it will generate a core in

I upgraded to 10.10 (64-bit) on my X201. I then deleted my
/etc/X11/xorg.conf. Now I can boot correctly without needing the
i915.modeset=0 boot parameter. Brightness controls also work correctly.

Verified this on a default 10.10 install + all updates on a sandybridge
based machine. Prior to this fix, any use of Xv would lock the desktop
environment up. Using 2:2.12.0-1ubuntu5.1 from -proposed, I'm now able
to render video with applications like totem, and rhythmbox successfully
