Well, I have been trying the various workarounds suggested in this
thread, and it seems that the workaround suggested by Dimitri in post
#120 (sudo modprobe -r psmouse && sudo modeprobe psmous) gets both my
mouse (swiftpoint) and trackpad (synaptics) working normally.

just moving windows. It's not a noobish question but actually quite
perceptive.

The problem is this is a generic error message.
A "batchbuffer" is basically just a chunk of graphics data, which gets
sent to the kernel graphics processing unit (GPU). X will submit these
chunks to the data for display. X sets a timer to check back for if
this data was taken and processed by t

The DebugWait workaround worked for me on an EeePC 900 using Ubuntu
11.10. I added it to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-evdev-quirks.conf as
there weren't any xorg.conf files in /etc.

The touchpad feels feels totally imprecise.

This doesn't happen every time. Next time it does I will see if Alt-
SysRq-K helps and also try booting into an older kernel to see if that
makes a difference.
