Sometimes my work colleague sends me a file without the extension (from
a mac) and LO does this to me, I just rename the file with .doc on the
end. Do your Word documents have .doc extension on the file name.

I am using Impress for lecturing in chemical engineering and subscripts
in chemical formulae is a crucial feature. I keep getting the subscripts
with a horisontally compressed appearance (about 50%). I have had the
problem on and off since the OOo days. Switching from Ubuntu with LXDE
to Fedora

A shot in the dark, it might be a font problem.
I am guessing, but a friend of mine writes Arabic fonts for Middle East
Banks & Finance Houses and not all of them the use "arabic numbers" (as
strange as that may seem).

I have used OO since it was StarOffice way back. About 2 years ago I
converted to Linux and currently am using Linux Mint 9 KDE. I developed
a Database in OO Base which I still use (OO Version 3.4.1) and it runs
perfectly - (but I do have problems with OO Base!!).
