I don't think the problem can be blamed on OpenOffice.
I am not saying the problem has to be blamed on OpenOffice. Only that
in the current state of affairs there are not enough information
available in the OOo world to cover a certain spectrum of the reality
some users face everyday.

I have left and right accent (à, é), umlaut (ö), carat (î), and
tilde (ñ) marks available.
I looked at the HOW_TO document and found keycodes and keymaps at /
etc/x11/xkb. I did not change anything to get the characters above
in OO2/X11.

version but unless you want to use it for testing purposes I suggest

concluded that the text cannot be reliably extracted without some
more intelligent parsing of the PPT format. OO obviously performs
this parsing since all the PPT files open flawlessly in
OpenOffice.org Impress.

In Writer, I'd like to Search & Replace all occurrences of data
enclosed in
parentheses. I'm able to do so in MS Word by using "\(*\)" as a

expression, without the double-quotes of course. I have read the

I would take a look at www.neooffice.org, they do not have the 2.0
