I'm not sure I agree with your statement that the Stream 2 has a greater
recording capability than my iPhone 7. At any rate, I don't believe the Stream
can both record and transcribe a written record simultaneously as I can with my
iPhone and the Just Press Record app.
Anyway, the point
Audio Memos is one you can bypass the filters and the sound quality is amazing.
I did not think the stream could possibly be better, but I'm willing to listen
to a sample.

I don't know how best to describe this but you know when you are viewing a mail
message and perform the scrub gesture to go backwards. The iPhone will take you
back to the list of mail messages.
Well if you perform this gesture on the iPad, you get a dong sound that vo
makes. T

Unfortunately it still talks with VO off. I can't really just turn VO
off every time I want to use it either as the inbuilt screen reader
doesn't work with search. VoiceOver doesn't work with search either,
so for me at least the apps a complete writeoff for now.

The samples of unfiltered recordings from the iPhone compared to the recordings
made with a second-gen Stream completely blow the Stream out of the water. Even
if HumanWare has managed to fix that persistant background hiss on the
second-gen Stream, the recordings produced by an unfiltered iPhon

That just confirms for me that I don't like the iPhone 7. I have worked with
several clients with the iPhone 7, and things seem to behave oddly.
I know most people love them and are quite satisfied, but this makes me think
your iPhone has an issue.
A 5S should not out perform a 7.
