It sounds like he has the auto lock feature turned on.
For those not having this problem, do you have auto lock enabled?
I never use auto lock, so this isn't an issue for me.

Hello Everyone,
To those of you who may not know, When using Siri to send a text message,
the screen locks before completing the process. It does not matter how long
the auto-lock is set.
NOTE 1:
If the message is short enough, only one word, for instance, Siri may
successfully send the text
I have sent several messages using Siri the same way and no problems

Hi Mark,
I haven't seen this bug at all since updating to IOS 6. I wonder, does this
happen when sending regular texts and iMessages?

I never use auto lock, so
Siri just plain is having problems with texts. Have not tried texting in a
locked screen, but if you are in Siri she will not send even on home screen. You
have to get out of Siri. Then she will send the text!

Apparently, although he doesn't know how it happened, he used

So, are iMessages and text messages seen the same to the person

You use the same app on your iPhone to read and send both iMsg's and

labelled differently, so you know when you're reading a text message
versus an iMsg.
I think this is configurable, but when sending a message, the iPhone

call a work-around, maybe in iOS 6 it is
possible to save text messages, but it's probably not high on most people's
list of important features and you can always just keep the text message
itself and it will always be there and as new messages come in it will
eventually be at the very bottom
