Question re Mail and Exchange

Anyone besides me play with Apple's Mail app and pre 2003 MS Exchange servers? I'd managed to successfully use Mail with my local Exchange Server (just having fun, not using it full time) on a G4 466. I finally got the G5 Dual 1.8 I'd been drooling about ... but when I tried to set things up ala

Sorry, wrote my post about Mail after a long ahrd day! I amusing Mail with system 10.4, POP account with messages left on server. Messages can be sent (so log in must be recognised), and Activity Window shows that Mail is connecting to the server, authenticating user and checking for new mail.
