I haven't heard they were hoaxes. I do feel most 'issues' are caused by the User not preparing for an Upgrade or taking precautions. I have had no problems with upgrading my devices to iOS 8.0.2 But... I NEVER do iOS Upgrades OTA (Over The Air). 1. I connect my device to my computer & iTunes 2.
