1. Save your current apache configuration files (httpd.conf) 2. Save your web site contenet 3. rpm --erase apache 4. install the tar file distribution 5. replace the tar default httpd.conf with the one you saved 6. restore your web site content 7. edit /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd to point to the new apache 8. start apache back up
