I also use WhatsUp in my environment, but am currently trying to get rid of it. The tool is fantastic for a very small user base, but does not scale well and has no backend capabilities for reporting and scaling. It has built-in reports, but they are limited at best. We also use BMC, HP Openview (NNM and OVIS) and Ciscoworks, along with a Heroix tool that works quite nicely. If your budget is limited and growth is not anticipated, WhatsUp will suit you just fine, and if you've got tons of cash and time, BMC is the top of the line. However, if you're in the middle somewhere, I highly recommend HP Openview Internet Services (OVIS), also known as Vantage Point Internet Services. It's a small piece of Openview that will, of course, tie into the rest of the suite if need be, and any other as well, since it's built on a SQL2k backend (or Oracle, if you prefer). They've just recently released version 4.0 which is an incredible update with loads of excellent features. Coincidentally, I don't work for any of the above mentioned companies. :) Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions, I'd be happy to help you out. -Tony

Ipswitch sells WhatsUp Gold, which will quite happily talk to any devices that you name." WhatsUp Gold is listed in the latest Network World's Interactive Buyer's Guide of Network Management Software Suites. Click on the link to review the information. A lot of information here. http://www.nwfusion.com/reviews/2002/netmanage0318result.jsp?_tablename= netm anage0318 Disclaimer: I work for a company that among other things is an Ipswitch Premier partner. Prior to coming on board I have experience with HP Openview, Castlerock SNMPc, MRTG and WhatsUp Gold. I found WhatsUp to be the easiest to setup and maintain. Anyone have any suggestions as to what they would suggest? Thanks!
