Or, for memorable dates maybe a using just a single "correspinding" 
numerical value -
orddate (a day of the year), like this one:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Orddate
But the problem are these horrible leap years.. Orddate is different for 
these, because
29th february is there.
