I'm using the 1.2.2 PlugIn and I'm not having this problem because the
javax.swing.* classes are bundled as part of the PlugIn.
Try including the missing javax.swing.* classes in your .jar file or
codebase.
This will increase the download time for your applet significantly so I
would suggest using the 1.2.2 PlugIn if possible instead.
