Hi,

Which version of tomcat are you using ? For 3.2, check the logfile tomcat.log in the
logs subdirectory.

I get the following entries among others

2001-10-31 09:29:08 - ContextManager: Adding context Ctx( /examples )
2001-10-31 09:29:08 - ContextManager: Adding context Ctx( /admin )

I am then able to access the examples by going to "http://localhost:8080/examples/";

And what exactly do you mean by "even the examples do not work if I do not extract
them into their respective folders" ?

Do you mean that after you extract the wars, you are able to run the applications ?
