Hi, Which version of tomcat are you using ? For 3.2, check the logfile tomcat.log in the logs subdirectory.
I get the following entries among others 2001-10-31 09:29:08 - ContextManager: Adding context Ctx( /examples ) 2001-10-31 09:29:08 - ContextManager: Adding context Ctx( /admin ) I am then able to access the examples by going to "http://localhost:8080/examples/" And what exactly do you mean by "even the examples do not work if I do not extract them into their respective folders" ? Do you mean that after you extract the wars, you are able to run the applications ?
