Yes indeed. The strange thing is, emacs 23.1 built on Solaris 10 U7
(without GTK support since the bundled 2.4.9 is too old) works fine, while
the same version built on SX:CE build 124 does not.

Same here: I tried this in vain when I noticed that the problem was fixed
in CVS Emacs. Unfortunately, the Emacs maintainers were no help either:
they just closed the report without notifying me and gave no hint which
change might have fixed it ;-(
