Lloyd,

It's late and I've been watching a lot of football, but...

>If all you want to do is match the same shaft to get a matched set fine.

yes, that's what I was saying. After I find a shaft and slope that works for the player, I want to match his set as accurately as I can....and the NF2 appears to be a faster and probably more accurate way of accomplishing this than using a frequency analyzer.

>If you want to match a club to a players swing frequency for each club (most of the time not on a published slope or tipping chart) you better use a frequency meter. The same deflection in two different makes or style shafts don't mean they have the same frequency.

I'm not sure how you define a "swing frequency," but I could give you four or five different frequencies with that many swings. (I'm guessing you mean the time from release to impact.) My "swing frequency" (and tempo) seems a lot different from a 48" driver to a short iron...from an E0 swingweight driver to a D4 short iron obviously changes the release speed. A 3/4 swing, a punch shot, a cut shot...all kinds of different release times.

Sure, different shaft profiles can have the same frequency (and also the same deflection), but that doesn't mean they will feel the same, or even one will work as well as the other, if the weight, bend point, etc. are different. There seems to be a lot of interest in shaft profiling lately, because many clubmakers think frequency analysis is too limiting.

If I have determined a shaft and slope for a player, perhaps using Mark Patton's demo method, I can determine my target deflections in .000s for each club, and (if I pay attention) hit those targets within 1/2 a cpm (.002)...as accurately as with any frequency analyzer I know about.

>But the same frequency in either shaft will match the players swing frequency.

Are you referring to frequency analysis as a fitting tool with your timing chip? Only if you believe you can do that satisfactorily. There are many who don't believe you can. The evidence that I've seen on this forum suggests to me that it's still a crap shoot.
