In the docs for this (I'm looking at 
http://www.shorewall.net/configuration_file_basics.htm#Pairs) there is a 
trivial typo that might conceivably cause confusion:

"After that, at any point, you can enter a semicolon (':')"

[i.e. the quoted character is actually a colon, although the example 
further down is correct]
