Adding to the withdrawal tips - cheapest and easiest way I found to manage my funds was to get one of those Travel VISA cards. I got mine from ANZ (at the time they had the best exchange rates and lowest charges) You top it up online, by BPaying from your bank account, so no bank fees on that end. ANZ charged 1% of the amount for top ups, which beats Aussie credit card international use charges. Additional charge for withdrawing cash at any ATM. BUT - the best part is you can use it anywhere, whether it's for a $2 coffee or a $200 dollar purchase (as long as you have sufficient credit on the card) So you don't actually need cash. (unless using buses or trains)
