Hi Everyone!

Apologies – I’ve been lurking for a couple of weeks after being
pointed towards this forum from a friend. I’ve been enjoying the
conversations and getting a lot out of them so far. Thanks!

I co-founded fastvue.co earlier this year, and I have decided to take
the plunge and move myself and the family (wife and two kids) across
to San Francisco at least for a couple of years to really kick things
off.

We have holidayed in San Francisco previously staying with my brother
in law who was living in Pleasant Hill at the time and we got to know
east bay quite well such as Danville, Pleasanton, San Ramon.

Our rental budget will be $3000 USD per month so we’re trying to work
out the best place to live. My wife is keen on Pleasanton or Danville
as you can get nicer / larger homes in our budget when compared to the
valley, and there are some great schools.

My concern is whether I will miss out on much by being 40 minutes away
from the valley. I still expect to be working at home a majority of
the time, with the odd meeting wherever they may be.

My guess is there’s more ‘buzz’ living in the valley but family life
may be a little more relaxed in Pleasanton.

I should also say that my business partner has also just moved to
Cupertino with his young family and is still adjusting so I’m getting
some great feedback from him. But I’m really interested to know if
anyone has made the move and chosen a location outside of the valley
and how it affects day to day life.

We will have some time to look around when we get there before making
a decision on where to live which is great.

Cheers!
Scott.
