and possibly inferior to democracy in the average case?

I'm all for benevolent dictators ala Linus, but how often can you find them?
It may be possible to use Lee Kuan Yew as an example, but AFAIK, there are
enough people that argue about Singapore as a test case, that it's not clear
at all....
