Lanes is a non-Indian thing.

In India people use the same algorithms of disordered ordered movement used by
flocks of sheep or cattle. Unrelated to lanes is Indian crowd behavior at a
single exit point such as a ticket or post office counter. The crowd
establishes itself in a triangular fashion with the counter/exit point at he
apex. Individual ranks are suppressed so that the first in may not be the
first to go through, but a general trend of earlier in-earlier through is
maintained - just like cows at a gate.

Any road is treated that way and the slowest chokepoint becomes the apex of a
triangle.
