It's very funny; in the lunch room in Ludhiana, I've been approached by people
who came up and asked me, very seriously, "Are you South Indian?" When I said
no, they were usually hugely embarrassed at the mistake, and would sidle off,
but invariably, when I asked them what made them think so, they said only SIs
ate with their left hands limp to the side, whereas they, red-blooded and, er,
earthy Punjabis, used both hands to get at their food, and wouldn't have
hesitated to use their feet either if required. Their statement.
