The simple way to avoid getting toxoplasmosis from either cats or dogs (or any animal for that matter) is to wash hands after clearing their faeces. Children are more susceptible because they put things in their mouths, including their hands which may have touched something with faeces on. It cannot be contracted by touching the animal, only the waste of the (infected) animal. It is very rare to catch this disease and it can be avoided by just simply washing hands, before putting them near the mouth. It comes from round worm infection. Dee
