Supermarkets don't dictate diddly.
You aren't NEARLY as helpless as you believe you are.
Go to the freekin farmers market and meet those that grew it and make
stuff THEY want to eat.
Hey, they're bunch of braggards, with good cause.
And they exist there to sell their products.
If you went there instead of the grocery store, they would BE the grocery
store.
You the consumer are in total and absolute control.
..and you obviously have no idea how hard it is to make a profit in a
supermarket when the big bucks are in processing and packaging, not retail
with a 2% markup and all that overhead.
Look around...many have gone belly up with just a small reduction in
customer numbers and most are struggling mightily to stay around. [My GF
works at Lowes Foods and I hear it every day, how she's working 4 jobs to
cut costs so she'll have a job to work as other branches close their doors. ]
Not to mention, they can't sell anything that you don't buy and only CAN
sell it because you DO.

Quite the contrary...I *know* you're spot on!
Off Topic, just to vent:
Supermarkets DICTATE what we eat and DICTATE what consumables we use cos
they ONLY stock certain stuff, and NO competition cos they've driven
competition out of existance...NO choice anymore...soooo, not only do they
DICTATE what we pay for stuff, they ALSO dictate WHAT we consume, and/or
WHAT products we use. Of course, they only have OUR best interests at
heart <bursting into uncontrolable fits of phsychotic episode>
For any Australians out there...take a closer look at the supermarket
shelves and see how many things disappear altogether, and/or are replaced
with something else...CHOICE?...what's that? slowly but surely becoming
less and less....you *WILL* eat and you *WILL* use the consumables *WE*
dictate is the philosophy, in the interest of perpetually increasing profits.
Check out the DVD "The Corporation", the viewing of this should be
included in ALL school curriculums.
