Not by consuming, but yes, it can from direct application. I have heard of it developing in only an hour when silver nitrate is spilled on the skin. But more likely it is staining, from it being splashed on the skin, then evaporating, and will be in/on the epidermis instead of in the permanent dermis, and thus will be exfoliated off in a couple of weeks.

Would you expect argryia to develop in a time period of one month, or to reverse after a period of weeks?
Why would this be so different in time scale between humans and a dog?
