Sounds like a big money saver over commerical products. Assuming they have value to begin with. Also, if one used silver electrodes instead, and distilled water, and removed the sponge in the middle, what would be the result? (assuming suitable parts to avoid significant contamination were available). The sponge is presumably to prevent the remixing of the water on either side. But that would destroy any possibility of getting abundant silver ions. David
