of no protein! Needless to say, the protein is important, and for this I
eat fish and nuts. I avoid beef, pork and chicken, because I'm somehow

Reid,

I am so glad you posted! I just started Atkins and feel better without any
high-sugar carbs as well. (For those who don't know, the Atkins Induction
program allows up to 16 ounces of animal protein, 3 teaspoons of additional
vegetable oils, and no more than 20 grams of allowed carbs from veggies, a
day. The allowed veggies are all types of salad greens, and a few
higher-starch veggies such as cabbage, cauliflower, and tomato. Look on the
web for more information.)

I wanted to say a few things about juice fasting. Many people cannot do it
because they are too ill; they need good fats, which nourish the brain and
nervous system. Also, for some, fruit is too sweet. The liver can process
only so much fructose at a time, which then turns to body fat. Glucose
affects the body much more gently than fructose.

I make myself green smoothies, which not only is comprised of veggies and NO
fruit, but I blend everything, including the pulp, in my Vita Mix. The pulp
has many important functions, including slowing down the rate of absorption,
and cleaning out the colon. Read Victoria Boutenko's book Green Smoothies.
Drinking the pulp makes a lot of sense.

Best,

Nenah
