A fascinating newspaper article this week described a new technique to sterilize hospitals. A US company called BioQuell uses some kind of spray device and H202. Patients leave the room, and the device creates a dew-like mist that coats everything. The H202 breaks down to water and oxygen, and there is no need to clean up anything. After a while, the patients come back to a perfectly sterile room. No traces of any pathogens were found. This technique may dramatically reduce infections such as MRSA. I wonder whether the method could be used after some sort of bioterror attack also. It might even be suitable for home use someday.
