Sorry, I wasn't talking about running the sipXecs server without putting
it behind a firewall - I was just talking about putting the sipXecs
server on a DMZ without NAT. The firewall will still limit inbound
connections so that they are only allowed from our ITSP.

without giving public addresses to the phones

I asked this once before, but maybe not in precise terms...

Given that sipXecs cannot be dual-homed, if the sipXecs server is given
a public IP address, does it create issues to have the phones behind
NAT?

Yes, they need to be behind a firewall that does not have an ALG turned
on. Your are well-adviced to run a firewall in front of sipx though. Why
would you do such a thing?

If so, then do the phones need non-NAT access to the ITSP, or
just
non-NAT access to the sipXecs server?

Neither. They will traverse NAT through their local firewall. Remote
users need to be configured in sipx but not server behind nat.
