64 bit was released when I installed it the other day. If I'm wrong there, I
really missed something.

So, case in point. I believe that VMware is not supported by sipXecs.
They are tested at CentOS 5.2 for the current release. They haven't
released the 64 bit version - don't know why - maybe lack of resources, may
be technical issues - might be it drives the CPU through the roof.

It seems reasonable that the developers should expect that they test on a
standard configuration, and confirm usability on that same platform. When
someone strays beyond that, since it is OpenSource, they do so at their own
risk - and issues.

Are we doing other things like this with platforms that are giving
undesirable results? Or is it truly a software issue?

And, I'm not sure I have seen a matrix of what sipXecs 4.2 has been tested
to be compatible with in terms of CPU sizing, memory, etc.

VMware ESXi
CentOS 5.4 64 Bit
No phones, users, sip trunk, or anything.
I just started building it. I have done nothing but put some phone firmwares
on it, work on the dial plans, etc. It has done this 3 times.

Before a question to the dev list, it might be reasonable for those that are
seeing this issue to tell what their configuration consist of. I've seen
one here that is on a VM solution. And Tony is indicating he is running PAE
Kernel.

I recall a message from Scott Lawrence that indicated he didn't think the
PAE Kernal would be an issue, but they had not explicitly tested that
scenario.

I've seen this behavior once on a customer system, and it went away about
two hours later and I've not seen it since - over 90 days ago. Dual Core
with 4gb.

Would it not make sense to try and find any common hardware scenarios that
might be contributing to this issue?

I think it's worth a question the the dev list to understand why this
happens. I had one that was so problematic, I started seeing
corruption in the DB and had to manually rebuild the data before it
became useable.

one can restart the config service from CLI

sipxproc --restart ConfigServer

(but I would caution, when I had this happen and did that, I saw a
further diminished capability (could delete users, could not add
users, input aliases, etc.)

Are these upgrades from 4.0.4 or new 4.2 installs? I would also say I
feel like a decent core duo would be the minimum CPU to keep this from
being painfully slow, and if you are using a 32bit OS, and running
more than 4GB of RAM, ensure you are using the PAE kernel (yum install
kernel-PAE, then change grub to boot to that kernel instead).

In my hand rebuild, I also made sure a branch was established and all
devices and users were assigned to a branch. I remember in 4.16 and
4.1.7 having issues with the configUI properly showing me details and
advanced settings, and getting slow, unless I had done so.
